NORA AUNOR, The First Recipient of the ESPADA NI URDUJA @ URDUJA FILM FESTIVAL



PHILIPPINE SUPERSTAR & SCREEN LEGEND MISS NORA AUNOR will be the first recipient of the "ESPADA NI URDUJA" the highest accolade that will be awarded by the URDUJA FILM FESTIVAL on its awards ceremonies that will be held on October 15, 2015 at the Star Plaza Hotel in Dagupan City.


Nora Aunor, the most celebrated Legendary Queen of Philippine Movies here and abroad, has not lost her magic in Screen high arts, as she is now called the Indie Film Queen of the Philippines.

This year at Urduja Film Festival, we are celebrating with the Queen as we honor her the highest accolade of the Festival, The Espada ni Urduja - TANGLAW ng Sining ng Pelikulang Pilipino - The Lifetime Achievement Award.  This award is given by URDUJA FILM FESTIVAL to senior Legendary Film Artists who in his/her lifetime had made Excellent National contribution to Philippine Cinema.

URDUJA FILM FESTIVAL is an annual Film Festival for Students and Open Film Competition in Region 1.

Uduja Film Festival opens in September 28, 2015.  Film showing will be held in Robinsons Movieworld Pangasinan and Ilocos.

Announcing the Call for Entries for the 2nd URDUJA FILM FESTIVAL 2015

(Student Film & Open Film Competition)


The Festival:

Urduja Film Festival is an annual undertaking to promote independent Films in Region 1 and eventually Luzon. It envisioned to hone the artistic and creative minds of the people and the populace in the make-believe artistry of the celluloid world.

The 2nd URDUJA FILM FESTIVAL will be a 2 week event including the Film Showing and Awarding: Festival Date is set on the 4th Week of September at Cinemas in respective Provinces.  Awarding will be on the 1st week of October.


Festival Competition Categories:

College Category
Open to all bonafide students of any Colleges and Universities in Region I
Theme: open
Film Time Duration: 15 to 45 minutes

K12 Category 
Open to all bonafide K12 students in Region I.
Theme: Open
Film Time Duration: 10 to 45 minutes
                                               
Open Film Independent  (new category for non-students)
                                               For amateurs & professional indie filmmakers in 
                                                  any part of Luzon north of Manila.
                                               Theme: Open   
                                               Film Time Duration: open but not more than 45minutes.
                
Call for Short Film Entries:
Inviting all student film enthusiasts, Amateur and Indie film makers. Final date of submission of entries is until September 1, 2015 the earlier the better. There is no entry Fee.

Who can Join?
College Students. Students or student org, or teachers can submit entries, endorsed by Instructor, or Adviser, or the Dean.
High School Students: Students and teachers, duly endorsed by the Principal or head of MAPE or SPA.

Amateur or Professional filmmakers:  Open to any filmmakers, must have recommendation from peers, head of fans club, community, school, company or church, endorsing the filmmaker and support for the film.

Theme of the Film:
Theme or the Story Line is OPEN, no restrictions. Socially relevant film is encouraged. Films with Good moral, Christian values and exhibiting positive Filipino virtues, culture and heritage is also likewise encourage.

Language Use:
Tagalog, English or Tag-lish. Full Pangasinense or full Ilokano vercular film is acceptable. Silent film is also acceptable.

Camera requirements:
Student Film entries can be shoot using smart phones or tablets or videocam or DLSR cameras as long as it is converted in DVD format for wide cinema viewing. Black and White film is accepted.

How many films can a School submit.
For High School: Maximum of 2 Films.
For College or Open Competition: Maximum of 3 Films.

Who are qualified for the Awards.
Students and Teachers are qualified in the film awards. Students are qualified to all nominations. Instructors or teachers or academic staff can act in the film and can qualify as senior actors nominee. Instructors and teachers can participate in the film as actors, directors and can also assist/help/advise in all aspect of film making. Different awards will be given at the Awards night, eg. Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Child Actors and Actresses, etc.

Student Film Awards and Prizes:

Cash Price of P10,000.00 will be given to winner of the "BANGA NI URDUJA" (formerly Urduja Cup) for the Overall Best Festival Student Film.

NORA AUNOR FILM EXCELLENCE AWARD or Best Socially Relevant Film will receive P1,000.00, YMASA FILM EXCELLENCE AWARD for Gender Sensitive Film – P1,000.00, URDUJA'S DOVE EXCELLENCE FILM AWARD for promoting Christian Values in Cinemas – P1,000.00, PEOPLE'S CHOICE FILM AWARD for the strongest box office support  - P1,000.00. 

BEST MOVIE College Category – P3,500.00, and BEST MOVIE High School Category – P3,500.00 

Trophies or Plaques of Recognition, and gift prizes, will be given to Acting honours and Technical honours.

Awards For OPEN Category- Indie Films:

BANGA NI URDUJA - Best Film (Open Film Category) - with Cash Prize of P10,000
KALASAG NI URDUJA - Jury Prize - with Cash Prize of P1,000
PUNYAL NI URDUJA -  Best Director - with Cash Prize of P1,000
LAMBAT NI URDUJA - Best Actor and Best Actress - with Cash Prize of P1,000
SIBAT NI URDUJA - Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, and Best Screen Writer - with Cash Prize of P1,000

Note: For the Open Film competition, No single film can win more than one award except in combination with acting awards.  (these rules can be waived however IF there are less than 5 entries in the OPEN competition.)


Special Award to honor an Excellent Professional Film Practitioner:

ESPADA NI URDUJA - Tanglaw ng Sining ng Pelikulang Pilipino (The Urduja Life Achievement Award) - Awarded to a Senior film practitioner who in his/her lifetime had made Excellent National contribution to Philippine Cinema.

PANA NI URDUJA -  Kampeon ng Sining ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Urduja Warrior Award) - Awarded to young artist who has made wave and outstanding contribution to Philippine Film Industry.

Festival Film Showing Requirements:
Student Film Showing will be on the  4th Week of September at Cinemas in Pangasinan, La Union, and Ilocos.
Students are advised to support their film entries by watching the film in respective Cinema schedules. Each School/Entry must be able to a guarantee a minimum of one (1) block theatre screening for their film equivalent to 250 seats (based on Robinsons Cinema seating capacity). Tickets at P200.00/seat and will be based on the following sharing: 50-50 Sharing (50% goes to organizers, 50% goes to the School or Student Group who made the film).
Choice of Screening day and time will be based on first come- first served basis.
Note: After viewing their respective films, students can view one more student film of their choice in the competition,as a double.  Or they can view one of the films in the open film competition as double.

For Open Film competition, the same requirements, must be able to guarantee at least one block paid screening of at least 150 seats. Tickets at P200.00/seat and will be based on the following sharing: 50-50 Sharing (50% goes to organizers, 50% goes to producer of the film) . If outside Region I, Urduja will arrange for a special matinee weekday screening in a cinema near their respective area.  

Moreover, All Film entries under the Open Film Competition will have free screenings as double for students and film critics, at the Robinsons Movie World Calasiao during the 5 day Festival film showing, on the 4th of September until the 1st week of October 2015.

The lead organizer of the festival is the Urduja Film Festival Social Advocacy.
Organized by Film Critic and Artist Dr Leo Fuentes – Chairman Urduja Film Festival, in coordination with Dr Barmie Caluza, Dr. Julius Mamaril, and Dr. Beryl Baltazar.

Macky Ymasa Excellence Award for Gender Sensitive Film

As a tribute to the first ever Best Director of Urduja Film Festival, whose film "Ang Buwanang Dalaw ni Luna" also won the Urduja Cup grand prix, and who passed away before the competition, we are honoring him by naming one major award of Urduja Film Festival after his name - The Macky Ymasa Excellence Award for Gender Sensitive Film.
